This recent ranking placed Minneapolis in the coveted "Gold" section of the list, which features the top 37 happiest cities in the world, making it the 18th happiest city globally.
In its study, the Institute for Quality of Life evaluates cities based on five key themes: citizens, governance, environment, economy, and mobility. The citizens' theme focuses on factors such as the educational system, social inclusion, innovation, access to culture, and more. Governance assesses how the city is managed and its impact on residents, while the environment theme looks at sustainability measures like waste management, green spaces, and protection of biodiversity.
Economic factors such as GDP, productivity, and employment opportunities are considered under the economic theme, while mobility examines public transportation accessibility and technology advancements in transport. Notably, Minneapolis excelled in each of these areas, earning the title of the happiest city in the U.S.
The top spot globally went to Aarhus, Denmark, while Boston ranked as the next happiest city in the U.S. at 38th worldwide. Minnesota's standout performance in this ranking further solidifies its reputation as one of the best states in the country.
